my thoughts
I am an A24 fiend! I love A24 and tend to enjoy most of their films (with some exceptions). This was one of the films that intrigued me because it felt very fanciful. Between Denver and me, I think Denver was the most excited for it.
Overall, I did enjoy the film. However, I don’t think I understood or connected with it near as much as Denver did. It was beautifully shot, with a strong script and cast, but the pacing is a bit slower than I typically prefer.
Lowery did what he came to do — he told a story. While I found elements that I genuinely liked, I was ultimately bored through a good portion of it. I even almost fell asleep once or twice. Still, I gave it a high rating out of appreciation for its visual beauty, strong writing, and excellent performances.
do i recommend this movie?
I would, but I don’t think it’s meant for every audience. It is surreal, twisted and has a slow pace which some people would love, but others may hate. However, if you are trying to get out of your comfort zone, I would recommend this movie!
