‘Perfect Days’ directed by Wim Wenders follows Hirayama who is content with his life as a toilet cleaner in Tokyo. Outside of his structured routine, he cherishes music on cassette tapes, and books, and takes photos of trees. Through unexpected encounters, he reflects on finding beauty in the world.

my thoughts
This was a film that when I first saw the trailer, I knew it would be great! I could tell that it was going to focus on appreciating the small moments in life rather than waiting for the perfect day.
Hirayama doesn’t have much to say and stays within his structured routine of a public toilet cleaner. His routine begins at dawn and he repeats it daily. I related to Hirayama on this because I also like to stay in a structured routine, doing the same things every day. Although my routine is not nearly as structured as his.
Although some people may not respect Hirayama due to his profession, I do. Because although he has a job that may not be appealing, he is content with the life he has built. He visits the same restaurant, buys new books for $1, listens to old cassette tapes, and cares for his plants. I mean, he takes pictures on film of trees, capturing the moment he thought was beautiful!
This movie made me realize how many things I take for granted, and how often I am waiting for the perfect day. Whereas for Hirayama, it seems that every day is the perfect day because he is enjoying what he loves.
do i recommend this movie?
I do! It is a slow-paced film, but a beautiful one. It isn’t a film everyone will enjoy, but it’s one that I think everyone can appreciate. It is also a film I think everyone needs to watch at least one time!
