Matt Murdock is grappling with the lingering trauma of his past and attempting to shed his Daredevil persona while Wilson Fisk, the Kingpin, returns to prominence, running for mayor of New York City.

My Thoughts on Daredevil: Born Again, Season 1

Following the finale of Netflix’s Daredevil, I had high hopes for Disney+’s take on the character. There’s definitely a noticeable difference between the two versions, and I don’t hate it.

Born Again feels like a way to officially bring Daredevil into the larger MCU (which I hope we’ll see him in more movies). Overall, I think the show accomplished what it set out to do: put Daredevil back on our radar and show us a darker, more raw version of Matt.

That said, it wasn’t perfect.

The writing and storytelling lost me for a good chunk of the season. The first few episodes were solid, and that bank episode? Loved it! After that, things started to feel choppy, like the show lost the level of care it had early on.

The combat, one of the things I was most hyped for, was okay. I liked that Matt felt more brutal in Born Again, but the show felt marketed as this gritty, violent take, and it didn’t fully deliver.

One of the things I was most excited about was seeing some of my favorite characters again. Foggy came back for… 5 minutes and no. I won’t forgive Disney for what they did (I understand it served the story, but still). And we saw Punisher again? I love him and seeing him again made me so insanely excited! The same goes for Bullseye! Side note, we actually met Wilson Bethel at Galaxycon 2024, which was such a fun experience!

Matt’s new girlfriend is a bit unhinged. Fisk is still a powerhouse, but it seems like Vanessa is the HBIC and I’m here for it!

I’m not mad at the show, but I am disappointed.

Final Verdict on Born Again

Daredevil: Born Again isn’t bad. It’s not the best series I’ve ever seen, but I don’t think Disney is doing a bad job. Am I disappointed in some of the storytelling elements? Yes, I am. Do I think it is objectively bad? No.
