My Thoughts

I don’t have much to say about this because it felt like a fever dream!

This is such a funny movie! Genuinely funny! Tim Robinson’s comedic timing is impeccable and had Denver and me losing our minds!

I could see my younger self in Craig (Tim Robinson), just without the crazy part. The need to fit in. The want to be needed. I get that. I resonate with that. But Craig takes it to a whole different level… A crazy level.

Breaking and entering, stealing — a whole lot of crazy. He wants what he was starting to have with Austin (Paul Rudd) and tries at every twist and turn to do it. Mushroom searching with his son Steven (Jack Dylan Grazer) and “adventuring” (aka exploring the tunnels under their city) with his wife, Tami (Kate Mara). Craig has officially entered crazy level.

The editing style feels like we’re back in the early 2000s, which is fun and adds to the humor.

By the end of the movie, I was hoping — praying even — that it was all just a bad dream. That Craig and Austin are good friends. That Craigs marriage wasn’t going down the drain. That he still has a job. That everything is okay. But it wasn’t. It’s his life, and for the second (maybe third) time he’s arrested.

Do I Recommend ‘Friendship’?

I enjoyed this movie and it feels like we are getting back to A24’s roots of weird movies. This one is definitely a bit weird and will make you question yourself throughout the movie.

If you like weird comedy movies, yes! This isn’t like the other oddball comedies — it’s just funny and weird and an overall fun movie!
