Review: Pulp Fiction (1995)

β€˜Pulp Fiction’ directed by Quinton Tarantino is about Vincent Vega and Jules Winnfield who are hitmen with a penchant for philosophical discussions. Their story line is interlinked with those of their boss, gangster Marcellus Wallace; his actress wife, Mia Wallace; struggling boxer Butch Coolidge; master fixer Winston Wolfe and a pair of anxious armed robbers, Pumpkin and Honey Bunny.

My Review:Β I hate how much I love Quinton Tarantino’s films! They are just something else, I don’t know how to explain it. I am a simple girl, I see a Tarantino film, and I watch.

Pulp Fiction is a classic movie with a hard hitting cast, which only helps uplift the film. John Travolta and Samuel L. Jackson’s chemistry is unmatched and their conversation feels more than co-workers, it feels like genuine friends hanging out!

The plot continued to raise the stakes. We start out with an armed robbery, go into a tense situation with someone who has not paid Marcellus, and so and so forth. The stakes continue to be raised until finally we are brought back to the beginning where we started. Amazing!

I had some trouble following at times, but overall understood which scenes went where since its not in chronological order. I also don’t really know why I kept being told this movie was fucked up. Like I thought it was going to be… So much worse than it was. And I’ve watched some really messed up movie (Human Centipede, I’m looking at you). Maybe I am desensitized towards the drugs, murder, etc. since I’ve been watching stuff including these themes for as long as I remember (I was a Law & Order/Law & Order: SVU baby.)

I will say, if you can get triggered by on-screen drug use or on-screen sexual assault, know that both are on screen and shown. It is quite unsettling to see the sexual assault on screen, but it is important for you to understand the extent of what is happening. But please watch with discretion if their of those topics are triggering.

Would I Recommend This Movie?

I would! It’s a classic movie and I think everyone should watch at least a few of Tarantino’s films (including Pulp Fiction) in their lifetime to see how he pushes the envelope. I am hoping we can get through more of Tarantino’s films soon.
