Before we begin, I want to give credit to my lovely partner for the photo of Giancarlo Esposito! He has such an amazing eye for beautiful moments that we may not see! I’m so blessed to have him in my life and to be able to see him hone his craft!
I won’t lie to you… I’m not a big fan of conventions. Between the price, the crowds, and don’t even get me started on parking โ it’s a rough ordeal! But I enjoy them! I love seeing the cool cosplays, browsing the vendors, and catching the panels.
Galaxycon first came to OKC in 2024, and of course, Denver and I went. One of his favorite comic writers was going to be there, plus the cast of Daredevil, and their panels were super interesting. What more could someone want?
This year, we didn’t originally plan on going. The plan was to head to Weebcon in Texas with my brother. He’s into anime, I like making him happy, so I was ready to drive in Texas traffic to make it happen. But it didn’t work out this time. His job wasn’t cooperating, we hadn’t gotten a hotel room, and the universe said no. So instead, we agreed that we’d go to Galaxycon since it’s closer to home.
So we went! Leading up to it, we weren’t seeing too many guests we were excited about โ aside from Cary Elwes and Giancarlo Esposito. The panel schedule didn’t come out until about a week before, which was fine.
We ended up going on Friday and Sunday. After last year, Denver and I decided that a two-day pass was better than a three-day one. By day three, we’d seen everything, met everyone we wanted to, and spent too much money.
Day 1 was… alright. We found out that Cary Elwes canceled last minute, which was a letdown as we wanted to get our Criterion edition of The Princess Bride signed. But it was fine. We walked around, didn’t buy anything (shockingly!), and just took our time browsing vendors!
Day 3 (our Day 2) was also alright. Denver spent time walking around, getting photos of creatives and cosplayers. We went to the Giancarlo Esposito panel, which was an absolute joy and the highlight of the entire con.
And yes, on Day 3, we did buy some stuff… oops? Denver got his comics signed, and we met some interesting people! So it was a good day overall.
All in all, it was an alright experience. I try not to look at other Galaxycons’ lineups because well… Matthew Lillard attends some of those and it makes me jealous. I would pay really good money to meet him and to get a photo. I am a Matthew Lillard fan, always have been, and always will be!
Do I think Galaxycon is worth the money? It can be, but it’s hard to tell when the full list and schedule aren’t out. Would I go next year? I won’t like it… there’s a big possibility!
