The Anti-TBR Tag | This Is My Villain Origin Story

I’ve been wanting to join in on a bookish tag, and I saw that hardcoverhaven had done it and I thought… I just have to do it! I love sharing unpopular opinions and enjoy having conversations about them! Without further ado, let’s get into my hot takes and what’s not on my TBR!

A Popular Book That Everyone Loves But You Have No Interest In Reading

I think this is still popular and people still love it, but A Little Life by Hanya Yanagiara. I saw someone talk about why they wouldn’t read this and that changed my mind. The term trauma porn comes to mind. I do have this in my digital library, but I will be removing it as I do not need to put myself through that.

A Classic Book or Author You Have No Interest In Reading

The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien! Fantasy isn’t my jam, but I love it when my partner tells me all about the drama going down! I just have 0 interest in actually reading it!

An Author Whose Books You Have No Interest In Reading

Collen Hoover… I know a lot of people love her, but her work just feels like trauma porn to me. I’ve seen snippets of the books and the writing feels elementary, definitely not what I want in my life.

A Problematic Author Whose Books You Have No Interest In Reading

J.K. Rowling… I loved the Harry Potter books and movies growing up, but after finding out she is a TERF… I was done. Not to mention, homegirl actively donates money to transphobic organizations.

An Author You Have Read A Couple Of Books From And Have Decided Their Books Aren’t For You

Hannah Grace, baby, we’re broken up. I have read Icebreaker and I DNF’d Wildfire. I don’t think I’m the target audience for her books, but they’re too long, the plot doesn’t exist and I don’t enjoy her writing.

A Genre You Have No Interest In Or A Genre You Tried To Get Into But Couldn’t

Dark Romance, yuck! If you love it, I’m glad! I love that, but I cannot read this for my life. Why is stalking and Stockholm syndrome sexy to people? Am I just crazy?

A Book You Have Bought But Will Never Read

Spiral by Bal Khabra which is so, insanely disappointing! I love Khabra’s debut, Collide but this one just… It was bad. I wish I had waited for it to come out so I could read a sample of it instead of spending money on it. I wish I hadn’t spent that money!

A Series You Have No Interest In Reading Or A Series You Started And Have DNF’d

Throne of Glass, A Crescent City, and A Court of Thorns and Roses. I tried to listen to the first book in the ACOTAR series, but I got 10 minutes in and was not interested in it. I gave up on it. I also feel icky supporting people who just go against my morals. So I’ve nixed Sarah J. Maas from my TBR.

A New Release You Have No Interest In Reading

Problematic Summer Romance by Ali Hazelwood. I know a lot of people like her, but I just haven’t been able to get into her work. I have 0 interest in picking this up and hope I don’t get an itch to give her a try. I need my peace.

Well, that’s it for me folks! I hope this was enjoyable or that you found something that you resonated with!

Is there any book that you don’t have on your TBR despite it being popular?

I’m glad I could inspire you (insert gif of a triumphant Elmo, arms raised, standing in front of the world burning) lol! I actually agree with a lot of your opinions!
