The Thunder Won and the City Lost Its Damn Mind

Let’s be honest… Oklahoma City will never be the same after this win! We almost pulled off a historic win back in 2012, and as of June 22, 2025, we are officially NBA Champs!

I wasn’t at the game, on the contrary, I was at home folding laundry as the game played out. I watched the score, texting my sister about what was happening, and once the final 4 minutes hit, I knew we had it in the bag. This is the only time I’ve seen Oklahoma City so hyped up! The energy was electric!

It felt like the entire city had lost its mind. Fireworks. Car horns. People climbing out of windows, up light poles, running through the streets. It’s insane behavior but warranted.

This wasn’t just a celebration of the win — it felt like a celebration of the comeback story. A small-market miracle that’s been doubted ever since KD dipped and Russ ran himself into the ground trying to keep us afloat.

This win was for the people who never stopped believing in the Thunder.

By Tuesday morning, downtown OKC was filling with fans. Thunder gear everywhere. Lawn chairs lined up behind barricades. Babies in little jerseys. It was hot, chaotic, and loud — but it felt like the celebration the team deserved.

Found on the Oklahoma City Thunder Facebook Page.

Something I found enduring was that the players took their time with fans — stepping off the double-decker bus, holding the championship trophy, spraying champagne into the crowd. It felt like a once-in-a-lifetime moment, something you don’t forget. Watching the city come together like that felt incredible.

Also? We made it through the parade without any of the tragedies other cities have faced. That’s worth acknowledging.

Ever since the Thunder lost Harden, KD, and Russ there has been an endless rebuild. This win feels different. The team believed. And the city believed right back.

This championship isn’t just about basketball. It’s about loyalty. About dreaming big. About proving you don’t have to be from a huge market to take home a ring.

As the win starts to settle, I’ve been seeing the reactions from outside Oklahoma. People are mad that the Thunder won. Mad about how the team celebrated. Making fun of the parade turnout, the city, whatever they can grab. And it feels a bit disheartening. But through all that noise, what I’m seeing most clearly is the sense of community — the one the Thunder helped build.

I didn’t grow up obsessed with basketball. Hell, I barely follow it. But as an Oklahoman, this team feels like a part of me — even when I’m not watching every game.

The Thunder gave this city more than a trophy. They gave us pride. Joy. A reminder of what it feels like to hope big. And this win is more than just a championship. It’s a statement:

Small markets can win.
Hard work does pay off.
Loyalty, grit, and good vibes aren’t just buzzwords — they’re championship fuel.

So yeah, I’ll be following the Thunder a little more closely now. And if we win again next year? You already know I’ll be at that parade — Thunder gear on, voice gone, and heart full.
