‘Dumb Money’ directed by Craig Gillespie is about how every day people flip the script on Wall Street by turning GameStop into one of the hottest companies in the stock world. In the middle of it is, Keith Gill, a regular guy who starts to sink his life savings into the stock. When his social media posts begin blowing up, so does his life and the lives of those following him. As a stock tip becomes a movement, everyone gets wealthy — until the billionaires fight back and both sides find their worlds turn upside down.

My Review: This movie was such a good and fun movie! It did the documentary aspect well, and honestly, I cannot see many flaws with the movie. I’m sure there are some, as always, but I am blind to them. This was released quickly after the GameStop vs Wall Street situation in 2020, that it feels fresher than many other biographical movies. They used real news footage, memes, TikToks, Reddit posts, and even the Congressional interrogations which I found amazing and was one of the factors that made me really like the movie. This movie is what I want from biographical films, and I am so happy I finally watched it!

Can we also discuss the performances? Shailene Woodley came back to my screen for the first time since Divergent and she played such a caring and loving wife that it melted my heart! Keith’s family? Dysfunctional, 100% but Pete Davidson’s performance as an unruly brother, who does care, but doesn’t know how to show it was amazing and Clancy Brown! It was such a stacked cast, and everyone blew me away with their characters, big or small.

P.S. They really made Sebastian Stan look like a douch bag and his range always surprises me. I am a Sebastian Stan stan and will not hear any criticism regarding him or any films he is in.

Would I Recommend This Movie?

Yes! I 100% would, especially if you have interest in the pop culture, primarily during the pandemic. It was well shot, the script was fantastic, and the cast was phenomenal. I am now a big fan of Black Bear Pictures (they also did The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warefare, Longlegs, Sing Sing & The Monkey, and many more!)
